WELCOME TO
SWEET OAKS STABLESHappy Holidays
You drive along a narrow, newly paved road located on the edge of a brilliant white cliff. You squint your eyes at the bright spectrum of the snow. Looking precariously down the edge of the steep Cliffside, you see a large, winding , ice covered river. Only the small waterfalls are still moving, though lethargically. The ground is pure white, any paths invisible to the naked eye. Huge deciduous trees and evergreens line the valley, also covered in the crystalline snow.
You continue to drive, the road now beginning to slope downwards. Suddenly, you are on ground level again. Ahead of you is a large iron gate with logo with a trophy engraved with an oak tree. Beside the gate was a stone sign, with metal letters spelling out 'Sweet Oaks Stables' and below that in smaller letters, 'Home of Champions'.
This is it! You enter in your code to the machine and the gate slides open silently, glimmering in the early winter snow. You drive past the great gate, onto a path in a winter wonderland of pastures and colossal trees. The road takes you on a turn to the left, towards the main house, a great modern style building on a slight hill. You continue on the road until reaching the house, where you drive around to the back. A large parking area opens up to you, and you spot 5 huge garages, large enough to hold horse trailers and motorhomes alike. You park your car as a man and a woman come out to meet you.
The woman is a very pretty and charming curly auburn-haired woman, wearing a large furry winter jacket with her name 'Devon Barnes' embroidered on it. Her husband was obviously the man standing next to her. He was young as well and was in good shape. He wore a similar jacket, though his had 'Mr. Jason Barnes, Manager' on it.
The young couple invite you inside for some warming up. Walking through the door is like walking into a different world. You notice high ceilings and a tall, elaborate Christmas tree adorned with sparkling glass ornaments. Gold and red and green wrapped presents sat underneath the tree, piling up already!
You sit on a bar stool, listening to them dicuss new horses and future studs as you admire their spotless kitchen.
When finished with your drink, they invite you for a tour of their property. All three of you load up in a shiny new red Ford truck, and drive onto the road again. You notice in the house's yard there was a swimming pool, now covered for winter, sitting in the ground, with plants and stones surrounding it as if they were protection. There's also a porch, you note, with beautiful maple wood and a covered outdoor living space.
You continue to go back down the road, passing pasture by pasture. Then you start down a road you hadn't seen before! It had peeked out between a thick clump of trees. As you drive down it you notice the pastures have ended, and now an array of paddocks started to fill the space. And behind them, an even more beautiful sight. Two great four row iron-and-wood barns!
You continue driving with the heat on full blast. Driving around the barns, you see a racetrack, with rails only to the centre. The track was synthetic, Mr. Barnes tells you. They had taken the dirt out for the new stuff. They also mention that a dressage arena and hot walker were located in the middle area. When you drive to the right of the racetrack, you notice a large hole in the ground, almost like a carving. Here, they tell you, is where they dug out of the ground to make a custom cross country course. You stare in wonder at the massive hole.
Making somewhat of a circle aroun the track, you stop by the left side of it, where there are two sealed up dirt arenas, probably used for lessons and show jumping. Next to that and near the two barns is the hay barn, covered up cleverly by a roof.
You turn again to continue heading down the forest. Two more rows of paddocks are passed, and the road starts to become cobblestone. Soon you see trails you hadn't been able to spy from the top of the cliff. Between a break in the trees you spot a teenage girl, riding in a bareback pad on a tall, beautiful bay mare. As soon as she heard and spotte the truck however, she fled. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, however, in't notice.
Suddenly the thick grove of trees opened up to a large cobbletone clearing. Bushes and trees line the sides. Wash racks and two large rooms which the Barnes identified as 'tack rooms' sat on the left an right sides of the courtyard. An elaborate pegasus fountain sat in the middle.
But perhaps the most intricate sight of them all was the stable behind it all. It was made of solid maple wood and metal. It had fifteen stalls, five on three sides, which made a horseshoe-like shape. Grooms bustled aroun, coming out of the corner feeding rooms. In the centre was another statue, though not a fountain, with hitching rails on it.
You drive around through the narrow cobblestone path, and see the last thing in this stunning place - a ginormous covered arena, roof plastered with layers of shining snow...==========================================================================================
